So Close to Crawling!

Evelyn is getting to close to crawling. She gets herself up into this position, tries so hard, and then gets frustrated. Any day now...

I call this one instant happiness. :)

Me Being Creative

I saw some cute little onesies on Etsy that I wanted for Evelyn, but didn't want to spend a bunch of money on summer clothes when she has plenty! So, I took a couple of her undershirts and made replicas. They aren't quite professional, but I had fun.

6 Month Check-Up

Evelyn had her 6 month check-up today and Dr. Brooks said she looks perfect! She had a blast destroying the paper on the table too which he got a kick out of. Here's the stats:

Weight: 15 lbs. 10 oz. - 33%ile
Height: 26 inches - 49%ile (although he said he could tell she was on the brink of another growth spurt and would probably add a bit to that in the next couple weeks)

We have been debating starting her on some solid food, but Dr. Brooks said there's no hurry and would actually recommend waiting since she is doing so well on just my milk for now. So, we will be delaying that for a while. That is if we can keep her hands off our plates!

7 Quick Takes

It's Friday again already?!?

1~ Evelyn is 6 months old tomorrow! I can't believe it. My baby is getting so big.

2~ She cut her lip this week. :( It was so sad. She was scooting around the kitchen and tipped over onto the edge of the rug. It bled a little bit and she of course was extremely distraught.

3~ She also had to get blood drawn yesterday. Rough week for her! She had to have a lead test because we found out that the paint on the woodwork in our bathroom and kitchen have high levels of lead. And of course, before I was made aware of this, I had been happily scraping away the bathroom woodwork preparing to repaint it. So, I got to get a finger poke too.

4~ Next week we will be done with our Candida Cleanse diet! We made it 10 weeks! I can hardly believe it.

5~ I'm already beating Scott in our basketball brackets. I won last year too. I just guess, he puts thought into his, but somehow I still win!

6~ Evelyn officially likes jumping on the bed. She figured it out this morning when she was trying to scoot, but just ended up bouncing and laughing at herself.

7~ I got out Evelyn's summer clothes this week because it's been so warm and she's starting to outgrow her 3-6 month clothes. She has a lot of summer clothes and it's only March! I think she could wear a different dress everyday for 2 weeks. I just had to pick up a couple pairs of shorts for her and and she's set!

Playing in the Grass

The weather has been gorgeous, so Evelyn and I went outside to play in the grass. I thought maybe she wouldn't like the feel of it, but she loved it!

She inspected every leaf and twig and she found.

But every time a car drove by she was a bit distracted.

Trying to crawl.

Drooling!

Pudgy little wrists.

And cute little feet.

We love our girl!

Evidence of Movement

She's moving! Slowly, but moving none the less. It took two videos to capture her attempts. It's kind of hard to tell how far she travels, but from where I set her down to where she ended up is about two feet.

She eventually does make it to the tongs, and finds some other things that capture her attention as well.

As you can imagine, this kind of travel has led to many bumps on the head. She tries to reach too far in front of herself and topples forward. She generally doesn't mind unless it's too close to nap time; then it's a big production of tears. She can be quite dramatic.

7 Quick Takes

1 ~ Evelyn's favorite new place to play in the dining room. It's hardwood floor and she can scoot herself all over the place and thinks it's great fun. She is quite content to play for at least an hour, all by herself, just scooting herself around from one toy to another.

2 ~ Evelyn only took 2 naps yesterday for the first time in her life. It went really well and she ended up sleeping 12 1/2 hours last night! It was wonderful!

3 ~ I can't say that 26 feels any different that 25 (it was my birthday on Sunday).

4 ~ On Sunday we're supposed to have some beautiful weather. I'm hoping it's nice enough to take Evelyn to the park for the first time. I know, I know, kind of a dorky first time parent thing to take a 5 1/2 month old to the park and it will only be made worse by the fact that we will probably bring the camera and video camera. :)

5 ~ I'm reading way too many books right now. I'm currently working through "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics", "Epicenter", "Created to Be His Helpmeet", "How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor", and "A New Kind of Christian" (only for a book club, I would NOT recommend it).

6 ~ I found the cutest doll house that I want to get for Evelyn to play with as she gets a little older. It's so fun. It's wooden and has all this adorable furniture you can get to go with it. It even has a little fake garden that has holes that the vegetables can be planted in! So fun!

7 ~ Evelyn also has a new favorite kind of toy. I got her one because she seems to like to chew on her wooden toys the best. They're called Sassy Earth Brights. She has the wooden trio one so far, but I hope to get her a couple more so she can teethe on them.

Have a great weekend and as Pastor Steve always says...be a blessing!

Trying to Move

Evelyn is starting to be more mobile. She hasn't mastered crawling yet, but has found her own unique ways of getting around. She loves playing on the kitchen floor because it's slippery and she can scoot around on her bum all over the room! It's so fun to watch. Here's a video of her attempting crawl. She never quite figures it out and gets kind of upset that she can't reach her toy!

Solid Food

As Evelyn is nearing that 6 month mark, I have been doing lots of research on how to start solids with her. Here are my favorite articles/sites I have come across.

Delaying Solids

Solids Readiness

Children's Health

And don't worry, I'll be sure to take a little video of her first attempts. :)
